This action research aimed to investigate if there is any significant difference between the reading skills of Grade 3 learners before and after the implementation of Pandemic’s Urgent Reading Outreach on Kiosk (PUROK) Reading Program. It also gathered data on pupils’ experiences about the pandemic. It was conducted on 30 Grade 3 pupils of Carmen Elementary School of Boston District, Division of Davao Oriental. The study used quantitative and qualitative research designs. In quantitative methods, pre-test and post-test were administered and the scores were interpreted using mean percentage score for the level of reading performance and treated with paired -test for the test of significant difference. The pre-test mean percentage is 13.8 which mean that the learners did not meet expectation while the post-test mean percentage is 34.4 with fairly satisfactory level. This suggested that the performance of the learners is slightly proficient. The computed p-value is 0.001 which is less to 0.05 critical level which means that there is significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. In the qualitative method, the researcher conducted one-on-one interviews to the pupils that underwent the intervention. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Five substantial themes were identified based on the given responses of the pupils namely; Teachers’ Courage and Tenacity in Providing Education During COVID-19, The Importance of Reading Sessions for Maintaining Student’s Social and Emotional Well-being during COVID-19, The Importance of Teachers in Providing Emotional Support During Challenging Times, and Usefulness of the Interventions. The findings of this study proved that the implementation of the intervention helped to increase the reading skills of Grade 3 learners.
